Sustainability and the UNPRI

An enduring commitment embedded in our business

Aviva Investors is proud to have been the first Australian fund manager to sign the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment in May 2006.

The Principles are a global initiative coordinated by the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative and the UN Global Compact bringing together leading institutions from around the world, representing approximately A$18 trillion in assets under management.

As a signatory to the Principles we acknowledge we have a duty to act in the best long-term interests of our clients. In this capacity, we believe that environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios to varying degrees.

Therefore, where consistent with our responsibilities to our clients, we commit to the following UNPRI Principles:

  • We will incorporate ESG issues into our investment analysis and decision-making processes.
  • We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
  • We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
  • We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
  • We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
  • We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.
